Then

The Boonton Arch Bridge was built in 1866 as an aqueduct to bring water to the nearby Boonton Iron Works. The Iron Works was founded on the Rockaway River around 1770 and expanded after the Morris Canal opened along the river in 1830. The bridge is made of stones from Washington Rock, which is just to the north of the bridge; the Boonton Falls are just upriver of the bridge and can be seen from it.

Now

Other than the addition of higher fencing, the Arch Bridge remains much as it did when it was built. The Boonton Iron Works, however, closed in 1911. The Arch Bridge, Boonton Falls, and Iron Works ruins are now all part of Grace Lord Park. The bridge is used as a pedestrian path across the river, and some traces of the Iron Works are still visible in the woods.
